Beginner Navigation Day

Get up to speed with navigating the countryside by map.    


Join us at Alpkit Keswick on the 14th of July for a day of discovery, learning how to get hands on with a trusty map and navigate your way around the local terrain.


Starting at the keswick store, we will be joined by Rebecca Illingworth, who will be taking the group out for a 10-12km, with a few moderate hills along the way. We will aim to leave at 9am and be back for around 3pm (for some coffee and cake).


Rebecca will be covering all the key skills needed for naviagtion including understanding map scales and types, symbols, countours, how to use grid references, using a compass and many more.


Here is what you'll need for the day:


  • OS Maps OL4 map and a compass
  • Walking boots
  • Waterproofs and a spare layer (fleece or insulated jacket)
  • Suncream, Hat and Gloves
  • Fully charged phone and personal medication
  • Packed lunch, some snacks for the day and at least 2L of water.
